Stretching For Tight Shoulders
Stiffness in the shoulders and upper back is all too common these days. If you work at a desk and have stress in your life, the stress gathers in shoulders! If it goes unchecked, this stiffness can lead to mobility issues, migraines, and body aches.
The number one cause of shoulder tension and pain is often poor posture while sitting at a desk for a long time. The other cause of shoulder and neck tension is stress. Our mind and body are like two peas in a pod, it’s only natural that when we feel anxious, stressed that our muscles tense up.
Tension in the upper body can be caused by:
- Stress / Anxiety
- Poor posture
- Old Injury
- Overuse of the shoulder
- Arthritis
Making time in a busy schedule to stretch on a regular basis will help decrease the bodies aches and pains. When stretching, give yourself a few minutes to settle into the position and work the breath. Feeling your body soften with each exhale, as the shoulders lower and the mind relaxes.
To guide you through a short stretch session, I’ve created this video for you with some stretches to release tightness in your upper body. For more videos, find us on our YouTube Channel.
